Highlighting our Leaders
Janice Jones, National VP of Merchandising
“Having received my Real estate license in 1978 nearly 27 years ago it is truly amazing how much the New Home Industry has changed. When I went to work for Pulte Homes the first time in 1983 very few women or minorities were employed in our industry. As a Pulte employee and leader in our company today, I am proud and honored to work for a company that not only recognizes the great value of a diverse workforce but is committed to expanding it.
As the National VP of Merchandising I am extremely proud that the merchandising team is dramatically diverse. We look for great things to happen for our staff and their future careers here at Pulte.
In your opinion, Why have you been so successful in your career? Passion, Persistence, and Praise. When asked why I have been successful in my career these three characteristics stand out.
- Passion I have always been passionate about my work. Work for me has always been a pleasure, an adventure full of challenges and rewards. My income was never a major focus for me, I learned over time if you do what you love the money will show up and if you’re working just for the money you’re probably in the wrong job.
- Persistence This has proven to be one of my strongest assets. Rejection and challenges have always been a welcomed opportunity to learn and grow professionally. I thrive under pressure!
- Praise Having learned from the greatest of parents, genuinely praising others and acknowledging their contributions and gifts comes naturally for me. Of course it is my own desire to be included and receive praise that drives my leadership style. People naturally want to contribute and when they WANT to be part of your team their loyalty and dedication will be unconditional.
What would you say to any women interested in a rewarding career at Pulte Homes? I learned very early from my mother that when women come together and genuinely want only the best for their fellow sister’s great things can happen. As a leader at Pulte I am only in competition with myself and the joy I feel when others win whether in business or personally is the real thing. Whatever your personal vision of success is, you can achieve that at Pulte Homes. Pulte's culture of celebrating the success of others is extremely rewarding and a true joy.
Pulte Homes culture thrives on formal and informal mentoring relationships. I would encourage any woman to search out and find a Mentor, draw from their experience and learn what makes them great. Trust your intuition, take pride in your integrity, and commit to your own successes.
I believe our differences, or what makes us unique is truly valued at Pulte Homes. Be yourself and don’t expect to be treated differently just because you may look different than your peers and leaders. Carry yourself professionally but don’t give up who you are. Diversity is powerful and when you embrace it in others they will follow your lead. Identify you strongest assets and areas of challenges and never stop striving to learn what you can do better or different everyday to make a positive impact in your world. LOVE THIS LIFE!!
